Motorcycle Insurance & Rider Liability
Understand the motorcycle coverage, rider responsibilities, accident-related expenses and assistance provided during your tour.
Motorcycle Insurance and Rider Liability Policy
1. Scope of Motorcycle Coverage
Motorcycle Escape provides insurance coverage only for the motorcycle supplied by Motorcycle Escape, subject to the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the applicable motor insurance policy.
This cover is limited to eligible accidental loss or physical damage caused to the motorcycle during the confirmed tour period.
The motorcycle cover does not constitute personal accident, medical, health, life or travel insurance for the rider or any other participant.
2. Rider’s Personal Responsibility
In the event of an accident, injury or any other incident, the rider will be personally responsible for all expenses that are not related to an approved insurance claim for damage to the Motorcycle Escape motorcycle.
The rider will be responsible for paying expenses including, but not limited to:
- Medical treatment, hospitalisation and medicines
- Ambulance and emergency evacuation
- Personal accident, disability or loss of life
- Damage to personal belongings, luggage or riding equipment
- Travel disruption, additional accommodation or transportation
- Repatriation or return travel expenses
- Loss of income or other personal financial losses
- Damage caused to another person, vehicle or property, except where covered by an applicable motor insurance policy or required by law
- Any other expense arising from the accident or incident
Motorcycle Escape will not be financially responsible for these expenses.
3. Motorcycle Damage Not Covered
Motorcycle insurance coverage remains subject to approval by the insurer. The rider may be responsible for repair, recovery or replacement costs where the damage is not accepted under the applicable insurance policy.
This may include damage or loss caused by:
- Reckless, dangerous or negligent riding
- Riding under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating substances
- Riding without a valid and applicable motorcycle licence
- Allowing an unauthorised person to ride the motorcycle
- Deliberately damaging or misusing the motorcycle
- Participating in racing, speed testing, stunts or unauthorised off-route riding
- Breaching local traffic laws or tour safety instructions
- Continuing to ride after a mechanical warning or visible damage
- Failing to report an accident promptly
- Any exclusion stated in the applicable motor insurance policy
Any insurance excess, deductible, processing charge or amount rejected by the insurer may also be payable by the rider, where applicable.
4. Accident Reporting Requirements
If an accident or incident occurs, the rider must:
- Stop riding as soon as it is safe to do so
- Inform the Motorcycle Escape tour leader immediately
- Contact local emergency services or police where required
- Provide accurate information about the incident
- Submit photographs, videos, documents and statements requested for the insurance claim
- Cooperate fully with Motorcycle Escape, the insurer and the relevant authorities
- Avoid admitting liability or making a private settlement without prior approval
Failure to report the incident promptly or cooperate with the claim process may result in rejection of the motorcycle insurance claim. In such cases, the rider may become responsible for the related motorcycle repair or replacement costs.
5. Assistance Provided by Motorcycle Escape
Motorcycle Escape will provide reasonable assistance following an accident or emergency. Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- Contacting emergency services
- Helping the rider reach a nearby hospital or medical facility
- Informing the rider’s emergency contact
- Assisting with police or accident-reporting formalities
- Coordinating motorcycle recovery and repair
- Providing available documents for an insurance claim
- Helping coordinate alternative travel arrangements
This assistance is provided as operational support only. It does not mean that Motorcycle Escape accepts financial responsibility for medical treatment, evacuation, accommodation, transportation, personal loss or any other expense incurred by the rider.
6. Mandatory Personal Travel Insurance
Every rider is strongly advised—and may be required before joining the tour—to obtain comprehensive personal travel insurance valid for the complete tour duration and all countries included in the itinerary.
The rider’s insurance should specifically cover:
- Motorcycle touring and the applicable engine capacity
- Emergency medical treatment
- Personal accident and injury
- Emergency evacuation and repatriation
- Trip cancellation or interruption
- Travel delays and additional accommodation
- Personal belongings and riding equipment
- Third-party liability, where available
It is the rider’s responsibility to confirm that their insurance permits motorcycle riding and covers the specific activities included in the selected tour.
7. No Guarantee of Claim Approval
Motorcycle Escape cannot guarantee that any motorcycle insurance claim will be approved.
All claims will be assessed by the relevant insurer according to the applicable policy terms, evidence provided and circumstances of the incident. Any loss, damage, charge or expense not approved by the insurer will remain the rider’s responsibility, where applicable.
8. Rider Acknowledgement
By confirming a booking, paying the booking advance or participating in a Motorcycle Escape tour, the rider confirms that they:
- Understand that Motorcycle Escape’s included cover is limited to the motorcycle
- Understand that personal medical, accident and travel expenses are not covered by Motorcycle Escape
- Accept responsibility for obtaining suitable personal travel and medical insurance
- Agree to pay expenses or liabilities that are not covered by the motorcycle’s insurance
- Agree to follow all safety instructions, local laws and accident-reporting procedures
Important: The exact motor-insurance cover should be checked against your insurer’s current policy wording before this page is published. Motor-policy documents commonly treat own damage, third-party liability and personal-accident cover as separate components, each with its own terms and exclusions.
